so met a sweet aussie boy sharing my hostel room last night named sam, and while i had the intention of going to bed we ended up staying up and talking for quite a while. today we decided to walk around the city together and he was nice to travel with because we were both slow walking go with the flow types who were really bad @ making decisions!
we wandered near the Barrio Alto area and found a nice church with a free museum attached - score #1. we then headed towards Belem to see the monastery - which was BEAUTIFUL and free - score #2. yay for free museums on sundays! also we hit up the pastry shops in Belem which were delicious and worth every bit of the famous words written about them - score #3! there's one bakery, Pastéis De Belém, especially known for their custard tarts - the line was outside the building and worth every minute of wait! they were so good in fact that i decided that those pastries should come home with me for my dad as a souvenir.
after all that walking it was time for lunch and a nap, then actually ended up spending the remainder of the day with folks around the hostel doing more food and partaking in the hostel's movie night - couches were pushed out of the way, bean bags brought out, popcorn popped, and beer bottles open!
