the alcazar entrance

i got to go to mass today at the cathedral in sevilla - which is staggering.  actually the mass was in a smaller chapel at one of the cathedral, but it was ridiculous in it´s own right.  i don´t think any words or pictures could ever describe the cathedral.  i mean the whole thing couldn´t even fit into one picture!  i had to resort to the panorama feature on my camera.  i didn´t understand a word of the mass but it didn´t matter.  a catholic mass is a catholic mass no matter where you go pretty much.  plus there was plenty to gaze around at anyway during the parts when i was completely lost.

if the cathedral wasn´t mind blowing enough, then came the alcazar.  the alcazar is an old muslim fortress built in the 900s that has been used as a residence for various christian and muslim royalty ever since.

i spent half the day in there without even realizing it.  it´s definitley fit for the royalty that stayed there.  i took way too many photos to even know what to do with... blue and yellow tiles everywhere, fountains... just gorgeous-ness!

after a brief walk through the archivo de las indias, lunch at a nice little outdoor cafe followed where i had some reeeally good seafood.  some of it i didn´t even know what it was - nor did i want to know because maybe i wouldn´t have eaten it!  but man it was good!  i watched an italian father and his two little blonde ringlet-haired little girls, who couldn´t have been more than maybe 5 and 3, sit at a table and tease each other as they offered him kisses and then would pull away laughing.

took a stroll through the parque de maria luisa and gawked at yet anther beautiful building - the plaza de espana, then headed back to the cathedral to check it out more thoroughly now that masses were done for the day.  hiked to the top of the tower - about 34 flights.  they´re very tricky though - there were no stairs, just upward slopes!  so you don´t really realize how much you´re climbing!  but it didn´t matter as the view was outstanding.  it was so wonderful it needed a new word for wonderful!

i´ve been here less than a week and have taken over 500 pictures - more than half have been in sevilla i´m sure.  it´s kinda becoming a problem!

exiting the cathedral i got caught up in some sort of parade going down the middle of town!  it´s a party in every city thus far!
