Dorney Common

It  usually is quiet around here , many times  i have walked or cycled here during the week (mon-fri) and you hardly see another person , travelling north from the thames the grass on the common is always very short like it has been mown .Sometimes there are flies around because of the cattle , but its  nice just to stop and lay out on the grass . At the edge of the common is a busy little clean stream  with small fish in and in the past i have seen that little torquoise fish hunter the 'kingfisher' around here .

Most of the houses around here are very old and made with timber supports , which have bent with age  , giving the roofs a saggy look about them .

It is a sunny day today unusually (for the uk in springtime)  and when i got home my forehead was red  with sunburn .

Dorney Court

Cycling on i came across Dorney Court  which is an old building with  it's own grounds and some flower gardens and a 'pick your own' fruit area , they also  had a garden shop with a cafe attached  . Whilst drinking coffee there  i noticed that most of the other  cafe-goers  were also cyclists and part of an organized club , complete with proper cycling gear ; helmets, shorts etc .

Dorney Court was closed today , but i only stopped for coffee . closeby is the Jubillee river cyclepath  which also had become a nature reserve for birds .The path is great and runs paralell to and about a mile from the thames , it is laid with fine gravel  and a grey dust tends to get over the bike and your legs  .
There were a few swans , mallards , coots , geese , what i think were either cormorants or shags were spreading thier wings and sunning themselves .

The latter two are actually seabirds  and the sea must be a good 60 miles or more away from here .if anyone knows please let me know , some of them seemed to be black  but with a grey chest .

That was only about 12 miles i cycled , there is a bit more to say , but someone just invited me to an avid TB club or something , maybe

i'm doing too much .I'm only really interested in sharing travels and tips , you will have to look hard to see personal pics in a blog .

just now i have an India blog hints/tips in me  , have been several times and i love india and will go again , problem is to give a true account there would be a lot of words taken up about conmen/tricksters/parasites  and the like , and i cant find a balance .
