Salzburg = Romance
Today was our anniversary and what better place to spend it than in the romantic city of Salzburg. We woke up to clear blue skies and headed out with another busy schedule of sightseeing. Having been travelling for so long; days of the week have ceased to mean anything to us but of course the rest of the world has not forgotten. The quiet empty streets of yesterday had been invaded by hordes of weekend tourists. We decided to head up the funicular railway to the cliff top fortress. Even though we had an early start we still had a short queue to get up but once up there the scenery was breathtaking. Again the fantastic Salzburg card got us into everything for free and we toured the castle with the obligatory audio guide and the camera was on overtime there was so much to capture.
Salzburg is such a perfect anniversary location as everywhere you look there is beauty and you can't help but feel invogorated and awed by it all. We decided to take a trip on the river so headed back down to book our tickets. |On the way we passed through a weekend market and ended up buying some giant pretzels which were very tasty and as our first choice boat trip was fully booked, we had a bit of time to kill. We decided that as the weather was so good an impromptu picnic relaxing by the river with a nice weiss beer was in order and we finished off our pretzels surrounded by some very cheeky sparrows all trying to get in on the pretzel action.
Anyone who has read many of our blogs will know that our distaste for kids is well documented.
So you can imagine our horror when we were joined on our boat trip by about 40 of the little freaks. We had a French lot around us in our hostel in Munich, now it was the turn of the Italians. We have to admit though that their ultra stern teacher did an excellent job of shutting them up and keeping them corralled at the back of the boat and they were not nearly the menace they could have been. The boat trip wasn't entirely ruined by them which was as much as we could ask for.We went back to our room and got as dolled up for our night out as having one set of clothes in your back pack allows and staying loyal to our new favourite brewery we headed out to a bar called the Stieglkeller. Some beautiful sunset views of the city and some even more beautiful frothsetting Wiezengold beers we ambled down to a veggie restaurant for more beer and a very nice meal.
The perfect end to a perfect day and six perfect years!!!!
