A Change of Track

In June 2008 I departed from Sevilla Spain to walk north 1000km to Santiago de Compostela. Located in Spanish Galicia, Santiago is the final resting place for apostle St James and a pilgrim destination since the 9th century. I walked 750km of another route,'Camino Frances' in 2003. The Via de la Plata is a different journey in every sense: longer daily distances, more lonely, and the elements are harsher in summer. Read on to follow the amazing journey of a 40-something sola chica!

The book that changed my mind
Something happened last weekend! I was looking for a gift in Borders (books) and accidentally found a new Camino book. This one tells the story of a man's journey from Granada to Santiago de Compostella. Why?why? did I have to read it! Now the gauntlet has been thrown down - I have to walk it.

The book is called 'Walking the Camino' by Tony Kevin

I have decided to do some more research in the 5 weeks that I have remaining. If the trip looks feasible and not too dangerous for a SWF then I will surely be taking a different path! (get it?)
I think now that I am more aware of the Via de la Plata, I will feel like I am taking the easy way out if I walk the Camino Frances for a second time. I know I will be able to do it but my main apprehension is that there are not many walkers and much of the route may be alone! I suppose I am choosing that after all.

I'll stay in touch. Perhaps something else will present itself before I leave!
