The trip to Malacca wasn’t very comfortable as were in a van again. It took about two hours and by that time I’d had enough. The scenery was quite nice, but as we had to hold the kids because there were no car seats in the car it made it a difficult trip.

When we got to the hotel we were a bit surprised by the shacks right outside the gate to the hotel grounds. Little wooden huts were people were living. The hotel itself had scaffolding around it as it was being painted. Once we got inside though it looked great, a huge lobby with café and restaurant, sitting area etc. When we got to the reception there was a problem though, they had booked us in for one night less than we had requested.

Fortunately we could book for another night though…

The room itself was a bit disappointing as it hadn’t been cleaned that well and even though there was a kitchenette there wasn’t much to it. It was very spacious though which was exactly what we wanted with two kids and all our stuff.

Once we had a chance to look around the hotel it was one disappointment after the other unfortunately. The Kid’s Club they were supposed to have hadn’t been going for quite a while, the pool bar wasn’t operational so if you wanted a drink you could swim up and order and then someone would go inside to get the drink… One of the steps in the pool was broken and so were a lot of other things so it wasn’t very safe for the kids. And the beach! In the pictures it looked wonderful, but there was a lot of rubbish and not very white sand… We got quite upset about the whole thing and ended up complaining which is when they explained to us that the hotel used to be part of a chain of hotels which didn’t pay much attention to the upkeep of it, and now that they weren’t part of the chain anymore they had started trying to get the place back to its former glory. It looked like that could take a while!
