A day spent travelling Wellington to Christchurch
We were getting a bus from the backpackers to the interislander ferry terminal, so with the bags in the trailer we set off to the next pick up point. However, the driver pulled over and hit something that was overhanging and cracked the glass in the door and the first window. The driver jumped up and down but continued on his way. The bus was full when the window imploded. Luckily, or not, only one young lady was injured by the glass. Not too badly thank goodness. Finally we got to the ferry terminal in time to board. The ferry crossing was uneventful, there was some pretty scenery. It was freezing up on deck, where we had to go to get any photos. We arrived in Picton, went to confirm our booking on the train and were given the option of riding in a carriage with schoolkids so that we had better views. There was another Australian couple and us that took this option. We had some lunch on the verandah of the pub. It was really nice, it was a sunny day. Time on the train was too long. Five and half hours. The schoolkids weren't too bad, it got noisy sometimes but we had room to move. Apparently the other carriages were jam packed and very hot. The other Australian couple were very nice company. We were definately glad to reach Christchurch but there was some pretty scenery along the way. We got checked into our lovely 1 bdrm appartment. We had take away delivered which was really nice and we had some left for tommorrow's lunch.
We have eaten their food a few times though. The first time, it was about 8pm, we had arrived in our hotel room after spending the whole day travelling from Wellington to Christchurch by Ferry and Train.
We asked the receptionist for her suggestion and Spagalimis was the preferred one.
In our room we had one of their menus so we picked what we wanted, phoned the toll free number and they delivered to our room. In this case, they also charged it to our room. We got heaps of food. So much that we ate what we needed to and put the rest in the fridge for the next day.
Needless to say, this is going to be a common occurance. I would like to go to one of the restaurants one day so it is on the "to do" list.
