The thermal pools
We headed for Rotorua this morning with a short stop in Hamilton. There are some interesting little towns along the way. We are staying in a hotel that looks out over the thermal pool. On arrival at the hotel I confuse the receptionist as I asked her if we had the 'gulfview room' but after saying it a few times I worked out that I should have been saying, 'the gueyser view room. Duuhhh!
We are only stopping overnight so I booked dinner at the Skyline Gondola restaurant. Our ticket includes the gondola ride, dinner ( I am putting photos of food on here. It was brilliant). We also got tickets to go back up on the gondola tommorrow so that we could enjoy it by daylight. A must to do! We did have a bit of a drive around but I think it will be a good idea to come back another time and have a proper look around.
Good location
We went to Rotorua on the way to Taupo and wanted to see the bubbling mud pools and the gueyser. We booked into the hotel and had asked for a room overlooking the gueyser and mud pools. We had an upstairs room and thankfully there was a lift. It made it easier to get the luggage up to the room. There was a pool and cubicles in which I think you could pay to have a mud bath. Our room was basic but all we needed for the night. We had a balcony and had the best view of the mud pools and we saw the gueyser erupt twice while we were there. It saved us the cost of paying to get into the grounds and do the walk to see it. In the morning we went down to the dining room for breakfast. We could also see the gueyse and mud pools from the dining room and the outdoor area. The hotel was a bit out of the town but it suited us. We just drove a couple of minutes into the shopping area. It suited us.
