A trip to visit friends so we took more time to do the tourist thing.

Off to Wellington today

Almost there. The water was a bit rough

Well, Mick had to go back to work today so after Andrew dropped Claire and Greg at school we said our farewells to Nicki (who also had to go back to work today) and headed off to Wellington. It had been nice spending a few days with friends.  We had an uneventful trip to Wellington but were wondering how hard it would be to find our accomodation. We seemed to find it with out any problems! We had decided to give backpackers accommodation a go. It was an old building, the lift was a bit of a concern, it was basic, our room was very small. There was one of those bunk beds, double at the bottom & single on top and room for nothing else. We did have an ensuite and there was a tv up on the wall of our room. Nowhere to put anything. Wouldn't have minded so much if the bed wasn't so uncomfortable. Wooden slat base with 1 inch   foam mattress!  Oh well never mind. Still think backpackers is great for the younger ones.  We would be returning our rental car tommorrow so we spent the rest of afternoon driving around  Wellington to see the sights. They definately have some interesting carparking for the houses on the side of the hill! We eventually had to go to our uncomfortable bed.

This accomodation is in an old post office. We chose a private room. The room had a bunk bed, double at the bottom, single at the top. The room was very small, just enough room to walk along the side and end of the bed. There was no where to put anything. We had our cases on the floor at the end of the bed. There was a television up on the wall. We had a very small ensuite. To enter the ensuite you must be on the right side of the door as it would hit the bed when it was opened. The worst thing was the bed, it was so uncomfortable! We didn't use the share kitchen or the share sitting/tv area. The ground floor had heaps of computers and a breakfast dining area. It was a continental breakfast for $5, not too bad. They also had a tour desk. There was limited, unsecure, pay parking on site. The lift was scary!
It wasn't what we liked but can see that for the young ones it is a good way to go but really, it wouldn't have cost us much more for a hotel room. However, we had the experience.
The location wasn't too bad. We did walk to the museum and the main shopping precinct.
