Flight to Milford sound & cruise
November 3, 2007
We were up early today. Had to make sure our flight was able to go as planned. Yes, weather permitted! We were picked up from our unit and taken to the airport. It was a 14 seater plane and including the pilot there was 8 of us and that meant we all had a window seat. Wow what scenery! When we arrived at Milford we were given the choice of going the rest of the way on the free bus or taking the walking track through the rain forest foliage. We all walked. It wasn't far. We boarded the Milford Adventurer but I think there was only about 12 passengers. We were there early because of flying in. The busloads of tourists would be there a bit later. It was a beautiful one and a half hour cruise. I understand why the cruiseships cruise in and out of this fjord as part of its itinery. At the end of the cruise we had to go back to the plane on the bus because of time restrictions. Another fantastic flight back to Queenstown.

Fantastic!
If you want to see some great scenery then going to Milford Sound is a must.
Milford Sound is a fjord where the cruise ships come into to see the scenery.
They can't dock there but what a view.
Of course if you go to Milford Sound, there are 2 hour cruises which are great.
You get all the information about the area and the scenery is fantastic.
There are a couple of the cruises that are an overnight deal. Didn't do it but that would be nice.
To get to Milford sound you can drive in. There is only one way in and out. Of course there is also a bus trip that takes you in and then you go on the cruise before heading back out on the bus. It is a very long day if you take these options.
The option that we took was to fly in, we then took a short walk and got onto one of the cruises and were then picked up and taken back to the plane which flew us back to Queenstown.
A bit expensive but the views of the Alps and the fjords and glaciers were worth it. We were back in Queenstown by lunch time and that gave us time to do other things.
