Day 3: Kamakura, Odawara, Atami
April 27, 2008
Quick stop to Tokyo Bay then to Kamakura to see: Shinto shrine Tsurugaoka Hachiman-Gu and the Daibutsu (Great Buddha) at the Kotuku-in Temple.
Then on to Atami whose New Akao Hotel is embedded to the side of a seaside cliff. The hotel and Atami itself is a resort destination for the Japanese and natural hot springs. Along with great views, the New Akao has a maze of rooms consisting of a huge ballroom, multiple bars, indoor pool, onsen (hot springs), game room, theatre etc. It was surprising sparse in terms of the number of guests which gave it a strange vibe, like a cross between cruise ship and the huge resort hotel from Kubrick's The Shining.
