Buda and Pest

part of the Opera building

Kristoffer and I woke up and were more then ready for a day of travel. We had spent the night at my boyfriend to make it a shorter drive to the airport and having the luck of him driving us as well was pure luxury:)

We got to the airport where we were to meet Liz and her nephew, Patrick. Since they hadn't arrived yet Kristoffer and I went inside the Taxfree to look around and buy some chewing gum...We met up with them shortly after that and walked thowards our gate:)  The flight was on time and no gate change which i hate so much hehe.....Still, I slept for a little on the flight while Kristoffer was listening to his ipod and looking at a magazine. When we finally arrived we decided to take a cab to the appartment since the price of that was cheaper then the bus service that were running between the city and airport. This cab drive drove like a mad man and made me wonder if he had payed for two road taxes since he drove in both lanes at the same time..Mad man and very important to state that seatbelts are great:)

Appartments in Budapest
I searched the net for accomodation in Budapest for 4 people. 2 adults and 2 children. I sent an email for information on appartments and recieved an email quite quickly on what apartment was available. I told them we were interested and how many days we would be staying. The annoying part was that i had to send at least 3 mails explaining the same thing over and over that we would leave on seperate dates. This was frustrating and i got the impression that the communication wasn't the best from the emails.
I was informed that they recommended us being picked up by their driver but they ONLY fittet 3 people into their car. Unfortunatly i haven't been lucky enough to see this car who only seats 3 people lol I must admit that the fact that they didn't seem to read the mail properly and insisting on using their transport services pulled them down on overall rating.

Once we got to the appartment no one answered the door. I had been informed that first a lady would be there but then in a sms i was told the brother would wait at the apartment which wasn't correct either. Instead their mum was there who couldn't a word of english and we spent at least 20 min on making phone calls and talking to the daughter who also didn't inform us of the broken tap in the kitchen that my son discovered after the woman had left. I sent a text message and got a reply that it brok down the night before we came and would write me when she knew something...I must admit i wasn't too impressed but we once we got back from our day out it was fixed. All these little things have brought this apartment to a 2 star recommendation which is too bad since i'm sure it could have been a lot better if they didn't sent me such a bad text message saying "exuce me, I m trying to resolve the problem. I will write you, but at the moment neighter i don t kow anything".

I will not use their services again....

Affordable lunch /dinner
At this resturant you might not have a lot of choices but enough to find something to eat. We were all hungry and this was the only one that you were able to sitt down properly and eat at compare to the other food stalls around the 2nd floor.

I ordered a Real Goulash which tasted really good. I could have rice or potatos to it but i told him i'd have what tasted best with the Goulash, so potatos it was:)

Kristoffer ordered a WinerSnitzel, served with potatos, which was so large it almost came out of the plate LOL Kristoffer was a bit unlucky and managed to spill Coke over part of his plate, but managed to save some of it. He almost finished the remaining food.

You do get a lot of food for the money so i think you get some value indeed for what you pay. You could pay in Euro's as well there but don't expect change back in Euro cause that won't happen. I didn't have much HUF on me so i payed in Euro and didn't mind getting the HUF back since they would be spent anyways....

A fun day in on of Budapest best Baths
Another very popular spa for both locals and tourists which surrounds 3 pools of different temperatures. The temperature ranges from 27ºC/80.6ºF to 34ºC/93ºF with the hottest 38ºC/100.4ºF. Winter or summer, chess is played in the shallow waters of the 34ºC/93ºF water of one of the pools. the interesting thing is that this Bath was established by accidentally finding a hot spring gushing out 38ºC/100.4ºF water when drilling for a water well. The temperature and pressure is always consistent and the cooler pool temperatures are controlled down by adding cold water.

The Spa construction finished in 1913 in a neo baroque style. It is the largest of it's kind in Europe. The minerals in the water are effective in healing dermatological problems, gynecological disorders as well as diseases of the nervous and digestive systems

The location is easy to find since the spa is located behind Hero's Square in the lush surroundings of the City Park. the yellow subway/metro stops right at the entrance Széchenyi Furdo.

This is the Bath we enjoyed the most of the two we went to. The warmer pool had water currents, jacuzzi, massage spring which was a lot of fun. The kids loved the water currents and the massage spring coming up was fun for pretending having done a big fart LOL...Still, that's kids for you.

Liz and i just enjoyed the warm water ingeneral but we also had a go at the water current:)
Funny enough i was the only one spoken to about not taking photos at the bath even if EVERYONE was taking pictures but here are some of mine anyways LOL

A fast ride to and from the airport.
I was told about this company on the email from the people we were renting the apartment from so i checked it out on the internet. I had also been told about the dodgy cab drivers in Budapest so we also had a look at the Shuttle bus going into town just to compare prices. We realizes that splitting the cab bill would be a better option money vise.

The Zona taxi is divided up in to zones in the city depending on the distance making the price right for the different locations. Their prices for the different zones are : Zone 1 = 3300 HUF/15 Euro , Zone 2 = 4500 HUF/21 Euro, Zone 3 = 4700 HUF/22 Euro, Zone 4 = 5100 HUF/24 Euro.
For the return fare its a different price: Zone 1-2 = 3600 HUF/16 Euro, Zone 3 = 4000 HUF/18 Euro, Zone 4 =4400/20 Euro

The ride from the airport was interesting. Our driver drove like he was going down a slalom slope as well as driving in the middle of both lanes. Maybe he payed double road tax LOL Anyways, i guess it was about making most money in a day with that driving, but we all got our seat belts on:)

The return driving was not as bad and that driver seemed more careful, but a good cab service. I ordered a cab back for the both of us at a internet cafe but the responding time is up to 3-4 hours on mail so it might be an idea to order in good time unless you plan on calling them of course. I had the Hungarian Internet cafe man calling from my phone to make sure our order got through. That way i found out that the responding time is 3-4 hours on mail and that they also answer quite quickly on the phone. Highly recommended on using their services if you are more then one person.
A floating tour on the Duna
The tour starts in the downtown at Pier 8 with a free drink for everyone. At first it looked like it would be only 6 people on the boat but the closer we got til 3 pm the more people arrived to fill up the seats on the boat. Still, as we satt there and saw the other boats with open roof we felt a little "cheated" with our little boat but i guess we saw the same as they did with or without the roof:)

Passing by the imposing building of the Parliament moving along to the Margaret Island which you don't really get to see. The Castle District –the Royal Castle - the Matthias Church - the Fishermen’s Bastion are located on the Castle Hill, the Liberation Monument and the Citadel are on the Gellért Hill. Continuing the tour in the southern direction you can see the bridges of Budapest, the National Theatre, the Palace of Arts. Getting back you can see the universities of Budapest, the Central Market Hall and some of the elegant hotels of the city. You also get to see a number of new built apartments along the Duna which is on the Pest side of the river. The tour guide on the boat explained as well as she could about the different buildings and the history behind the city. "it was not by accident" was a sentence we heard often haha quite funny but still good info from the woman.

All in all just a regular sightseeing boat that offers what you see along the Duna river which ever boat you get on in my opinion.

A charging friendly cafe:)
We ended up at Replay Cafe just for charging my sons batteri to his newly bought Canon compact camera.

Due to the fact we were short of one camera and he was using mine most of the time i bought one for him as well. The only problem was that it wasn't charged of course:)
We all agreed to sitt down at some place in the city so we could charge the batteri and get some life into it:) When we walked past the cafe in a narrow quiet street i went up to the two waiters that stood in the door way. I asked them if we satt down and had something to drink if it also was possible to charge the camera batteri for my son so he could take some photos. They said that would be ok and took the precious batterie inside and returned to take our orders.

It was quiet and little to do but we were sitting in the shadow so no rush to get cold LOL
I ordered tea and the boys had coke and sprite and Liz ordered a bottle of water. So there we satt taking our time while the power inside was doing its job for a few Hungarian money...
They had good service and the prices weren't too bad either so all in all a nice hip place i would say, i would go back to that cafe again.

A Very Friendly Pizza Hut
A nice clean and friendly Pizza Hut located at Andrassy Ut/Korut Erzsëbet.

Our waiter was very friendly and tried his best to explain what the toppings were on the pizza's. On one he explained small round green things and we kept on saying PEAS. He said NO and kept on drawing a lot of small round things on a paper and we said "peas". He shook his head then got a menue with pictures and showed us the little green things which where ? "peas" hahaha He started to laugh since he realized it was PEAS.

We had a great big table and enjoyed the pizza we ordered. When we all were done we asked for the bill and before we left our waiter came over with a notepad and a pen to ask me if i could write down the word PEA among some other things such as prawn and favorite Grizzly Bear food the Salmon:)

We had a good time at this place and having a friendly waiter helps :)
