The fire in Firenza

It was only a short train ride from Pisa (should have made Pisa a stop for a few hours and come straight to Florence). The hostel was close to the train station and soon enough we'd checked in, got a map and was out and about exploring. The first landmark was the Midici ?? but it isn't much of a building to look at especially with scaffolding hanging off it. The next was the famous Duomo which is absolutely huge. It's hard to describe the size without really seeing it yourself. Maybe the pictures will help a little. It was around 7pm so the Duomo was closed, but the stairs infront seemed to be a popular spot for the students to hang out along with the tourists and the beggars.
We began walking around the back of the Duomo only to find ourselves further from cover when the rain started to fall. The rain was a good sign to go off and find somewhere to sit and eat. Of course by the time we started looking at different restaurants the rain had stopped, but it was heading towards 8pm and we didn't feel like leaving eating till later so we sat down and had a great little meal. The vegetable soup Florentine style and the backed sea bass with vegies were both delicious and highly recommended.
