I had a job...and now I don't
Hi,
I was going to tell you about my trip to Oxford, but really there is not much to tell.
Friday 2 weeks ago I had an interview for a street fundraising company here in London and I got the job. They sent me for 2 days to Oxford where the training take place and that was fun - nice people but I'm unhappy to say that because of the shot time and the rain I didn't got to see much of it but it's look nice and worth a visit and the pub is good :)
Then Wednesday last week I hit the streets, fundraising for the British Red Cross and looking for a long term direct debit donation. Boy o Boy, it's not easy - My dialogue is good, but it's just not easy to make people stop and talk with you. Not easy I say? very hard will be more accurate.
In the first few days I had no results what so ever, then I had one day that I did OK and then back to no good, just couldn't make people to stop for me.
So, they fired me. fun fun fun
and before they did, the last man I did stop, end up to be an 00 - yep from the MI6 so he told me he can't have his name and info on any database and went away. Just my good luck don't you thing?
It's a shame as I think that if I had just a bit more time I would get there and do better, but - this is it and now I better look for a new job to pay the bills.
I never been fired before and now I been fired from 2 jobs in few weeks, lovely. Just when I really need one.
So, back to the game, looking for a new job.
I do want to finish today with a bit of hope: I may try a different fundraising company, I think I'll also go back to few of the outdoors shops and see if they are recruiting, I did send my C.V to few more travel agencies and something positive better happen. And my tent and sleeping bag arrived to the UK so I can always pack and start hitchhiking around (not really - I have to pay back to my friends)...
Enjoy the rest of your weekend, I plan on trying to do so :)
and by the way, thank you for all the B-Day wishes, cheers :)
Working from home
Ok, so let's see how my first day working from home have been. Few weeks ago I got myself a temp job in a call center and I was meant to make calls to Israel, something for IBM. And now, they told me they don't have a place for me in the office and ask me if I mind doing it from home...this is how it's go - I log into the system, open my skype and start making calls to Israel. It's about 2-3 hours a day, and it's a nice thing to not need to go out and on the train, but it's also not doing much to pay the rent, more of a pocket money then anything else but - I'm happy to have this - it's much better then nothing at all.
So, day one of waking up, having my morning coffee and going back to bed and making calls - if it could only be a full time job, then - great.
..but it's not...Few days ago I sew a ad for a New Zealand and Australia specialist for one of the tour operators and also one for China & Japan. The thing is - I never been to Japan, and I been only to Sydney and Griffith (very off the track) so I'm not much of a great help but today I was thinking, why not? so I send the agency (it's all by recruitment agencies over here) my C.V and they call me back in the afternoon. The girl on the line was saying me the same thing - wow, I been traveling for so long etc and she pass it on to them...but they need some one that know about New Zealand and Australia or someone that know about China&Japan, but someone like myself that know about China&New Zealand? no way... god save me - I'm in between and nothing can help....as for now. I do hope she will tern to be a nice surprise and will do her job - and that mean finding me a job :)
than, I found out about the "Amsterdam Klezmer Band", good music, in a way. Do any of you Dutch people know it?
And, just before I done for today and go to make some dinner, I am happy to say that my Bialetti Moka Express for 20 pounds is the best thing I got myself since I come here - 79 Pennies for a bag of coffee that hold for a week and I'm all nicely set :)
And I'm here!
Ok,
The idea is very simple - I have a EU passport (Austrian) and couldn't stay any longer in Israel (minor problems with the law). Not really, just had enough and wanted to be somewhere alse.
From what I been told, they speak english in the UK, some kind of english anyway, so it was the logical place to go to without the need to learn a new language.
My good mates say I can life with them till I will get things going so this is what I did. South West London here I come...
But, how can I find something to do that have any connection to my past work experience - guiding in the desert is nothing like an office job. But I try hard and will get something, at the end of the day, I hope...
I found a temp job in a call center doing a project in Hebrew for IBM (via the call center company) and that's fine, but far away from being a full time job.
And they just call me 5 min's ago and told me I can work from home from now on - will make calls via skype, they will pay me and everything will be alright...just that 2 hours a day is not what I'm looking for...So what do I do here? after 4-5-6 weeks with my mates I moved out, and I rent a nice room in the same street as they do - only 10 houses away so that's is very cool! so I go and visit them a lot, sleep, read, music and: Going to the park!
so, few things that I was thinking about are: working for a tour operator - I apply for many and hope to hear from them, till now I had two interviews, and they say no. But, I keep on trying...
And also outdoor shops, I still wait for an answer about it, hope they will call me soon, with a nice positive answer but I'm not so sure about it...
well, this is my ad, feel free to have a look, and if you do know the right person to send the link to, please do so...

and, I'll do everything, any kind of job that pay, more or less...
greetings from marry London, from the bottom of the pint
