The next day we waited for Jason to wake up, and then decided to go to the Reptile House. It was pouring with rain, so we couldn’t do much outside. It was a wonderful place though, they had a lot of different reptiles from the area on display (live ones), and then brought out a few for a talk and petting session. We got to hold different types of lizards and a couple of snakes, as you can see in the pictures. After we left there we had some lunch and then went to the Alice Springs Desert Park. Here they have re-created different types of desert, with some of it being original. They also have enclosed areas with several species of birds and reptiles. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the kangaroos and emus, but we just ran out of time! We did see the “Birds of prey” show. The idea is that they show different birds their hunting techniques.
When we got back home we tried to get a babysitter for that night so we could go out, but we didn’t have much luck until Darrin offered to do it, which we were very grateful for. He really misses his kids who live in Rockhampton, so he loved being able to spend some time with ours…
We went out to dinner at the casino, and had a wonderful meal. We had a few Australian game meats such as kangaroo, camel, emu and crocodile, and after the meal we had a few drinks at the bar and a flutter in the casino which unfortunately didn’t make us any richer… I went home a bit before the boys did.
