The last couple of years we don't buy the usual birthday gifts for each other, instead we treat each other to a nice lunch, high tea or museum visit.
My sister gave me for my last birthday a lunch, and I had to choose the location.
I thought it a different idea to roam the Waterland region instead of the common Amsterdam places. After some research we had several options, but went for "het Schoolhuis" at Holysloot.
And because it was Summer we decided to go on bike and leave the car at home.
We left home around 11.00, and went east to the big canal for the ferry to take us to the other side. Along the Broekermeerdijk, to the nice village of Broek in Waterland, and then further east until we saw a roadsign.
Once we were at the other side it was easy to find our way because Holysloot is a dead end village with only one street, and the Schoolhuis in the middle at the road towards Amsterdam.
We found a nice place outside on the terrace, where we enjoyed our lunch.
When finished we decided to go by the village of Zuiderwoude, and we did not regret that because the road is such a peaceful one amidst the high reeds, and the weather was just beautiful. From Zuiderwoude back to Broek in Waterland, and another little detour by the village of Ilpendam where we took the ferry to our side of the canal. Then further on the fairly new bicyclepath right through the marshes we headed straight to the place where I was born and raised, where we had to turn south, for the road to go home.
