gorillas inside the orangutan nest

it’s understood that the best way to observe the wildlife is at their natural habitat. it goes the same with observing primates in indonesia. our famous primates the orangutan is the inhabitant of the tropical rain forest in outback sumatera and borneo. but when you just don’t have that much time and happen that you’re in jakarta, you can visit the schmutzer  primate centre, one of the best and comprehensive primate centre in the world just within minutes from the city centre.

it's good knowing that all the inhabitants of this primate centre, situated inside the ragunan zoo was treated humanely, and seriously well taken care. the jakarta people as well as the indonesian primate lover owed the late mrs puck schmutzer for this such great and comprehensive primate centre.

pauline adeline antoinette veersteegh was born in wonorejo - central java, indonesia in september 6th 1924, as an indonesian. then converted her nationality to dutch in 1951. but however she had never leave indonesia except during her duty as an executive in ford motor in singapore for few years, until she came back in 1959.  she passed in 1998 and her cremation dusk were brought to the deep tropical jungle of jambi, sumatera as her eternal sanctuary.

the main attraction of this primate centre are the silver back gorillas, watching gorilla behavior is truly fascinating. these animals are so intelligent it is sad how their numbers are on the decline in the wild. i watched how these gorillas, orangutans, and chimps used tools  to help them to do a lot of things. and that’s one of the reason that distinct them from the other primates, in some occasions they also play with it.

but however, some sour notes needed to be made, especially regarding some facilities that need to be seriously repaired. the canopy bridge is seriously damaged due to the fallen branches during the last bad weather. also some carpets in the theatre that also need to be replaced.
