The Matchmaking Festival
We left the Lighthouse B and B and decided we wanted to finish driving through Connor's Pass and then drove down to do the Loop Head drive out to Loop Head Lighthouse. In case you haven't noticed we're big on scenic drives. If any of us every read about any kind of drive or scenic tour we planned on doing it. On the way out to Loop Head we found a beach called Farmagle or Fermagle Strand and you could take your car out on it. That brought all kinds of joy to my world, lol. We did finally get out to the lighthouse and did the normal 1,000 stops to take all kinds of pictures. The most memorable quote of the day came from Kerry who announced to me " I almost bit the dust back there". It was just the way she said it, like she was telling me what she had for breakfast or something, needless to say we both busted out laughing and laughed all the way back to the car.
We then headed to Lisdoonvarna, via the Kilimer-Talbert ferry, where we planned on staying the rest of the weekend. If you've ever heard of Lisdoonvarna it's probably because of the yearly Matchmaking Festival that happenes every year in September and October, sometimes also referred to as the International Bachelor Festival. Now I don't want to say the we planned our whole trip around the fesitval because we didn't but if you look at our route on the map we did just a little backtracking so that we could be in Lisdoonvarna on the weekend. I mean what's the sense of going to the Matchmaking Festival if you can't go on the weekend right?
We checked into our B and B St. Jude's met our host and hostess and they told us where the best place to go was.
We drove thru town just to see where everything was and it was crazy. It was around 4pm and there were people everywhere and most of those people were, well, a bit tipsy. We hurried and ate so we'd have a foundation to drink on and headed back to St. Jude's to get ready. Carmel our hostess decided it was to far for us to walk so she drove us into town. Kerry and I were the only ones who went, Leann decided she want to go after we drove thru town. The first bar we went to was the McGuiness (or something like that) of course Kerry and I renamed it the ass-grabber bar for reasons obvious to anyone who goes to the bar during the festival. We had a BLAST!! I whole heartedly recommend going to the Matchmaking Festival once in your life, single or not. It was like the Irish version of Mardi Gras. What a fun time, everyone is friendly, and I don't just mean in the ass-grabbing kind of way, lol. Kerry and I talked about going for a week this year but things didn't work out, but 2007 is a whole other year!! Anyone want to go????
