Dunluce from a distance.
We decided to go to Dunluce Castle today as well since we still had time, I had been by Dunluce on previous trips but had never got to actually go inside of it. On the way there we saw someone walking on the road, it ended up being the 17 year old Canadian ( I don't think any of us ever exchanged names, how weird) he got in and we all headed to Dunluce. Dunluce Castle was believed to have been built sometime in the 13th century, it has had many additions over the years as well as many occupants. There are many myths and stories surrounding Dunluce as well as many tragedies. In 1639 for instance a portion of the castle including the kitchen fell off the cliff and into the ocean during a storm killing at least 7 kitchen servants.
Dunluce Castle.
Dunluce is my all time favorite Irish Castle and I know I said this before but if you ever find yourself in Northern Ireland definitely drive the A2 up the Antrim coast and stop at Dunluce Castle.
It was getting late at this point and we had told our new friend that we would drop him at the train station in Portrush for the evening train so we decided to head back to town. We did make one more stop at Whitepark Bay. We walked along the beach which was beautiful, there were these huge sandstone formations all around which we all took pictures of and a naked man who had just gone skinny dipping which we did not take pictures of. This then began the conversation of why one would skinny dip in the cold ocean in mid September and then proudly strut naked along the beach when well, how shall I put this, um there was not much to be proud of???? We were rebuffed by Mr. Canada and reminded that there was such a thing as shrinkage. I then reminded him that maybe shrinkage should have been taken into account prior to proudly strutting naked on the beach and he agreed.
We left the beach dropped our new friend who I'm sure was quite glad to be rid of the 3 of us at the train station and headed to dinner and dessert cause it was over a 5 mile day :)
