It was early morning. When I say early morning I mean 11am. It was the first time so far in my short visit to New York that I'd seen morning (having gone to bed and slept first) and today was the day of the picnic in the park. Jennifer had invited her friends from work and a few NY travbuddies to Central Park in the afternoon. Outside the weather was just perfect, the cloud of the previous days had lifted and the sky was crisp and blue.

Although the picnic wasn't due to start until 2pm, we both decided it would be fun to just do nothing all day in the park, so headed over to a grocery store. Inside the store they sell everything a normal supermarket would. Except everything is physically scaled down; the shopping cart was 50% smaller in all respects, as were the aisles and the boxes containing the produce.
Everything that is except the enormously oversized fruit and vegetables! I'm not sure what American's do with their produce but compared to the things you see in Europe - they are MASSIVE! Onions look like footballs and apples look like they could individually feed a family of four. The only things natural looking were the cucumbers and this is partly because the EU decided to standardise them and make them all long and narrow!! OK enough about fruit!!

We arrived in the park and set up some blankets - one in the sun and one in the shade. Jen parked up in the sun! I MEAN COME ON! I'm the one who needs the tan here :D Soon after her friends arrived and so did Jeff sans Chicken (OH don't think I forgot JEFFREY!!! On no you didn't!!!!), Debra and her hilarious friend Madeleine who was to be my mother for the day.
Cute little boy that came over to play!!

Tops came off. Mine stayed on! I'm British and I have some pride and didn't want to blind people with my skin tone! Was such a nice relaxing time; being fed by Madeleine - I think she was taking the mothering part quite serious, although I drew the line at having my mouth wiped down with a spat-on-hanky! Playing volley ball - almost killing a small baby (Ok that wasn't a highlight!), throwing the Frisbee - almost killing the same small baby (I stopped playing at this point!) and when that cute little boy came over and stole a cracker and passed a second one to his dad! That was so freaking cute!!!

Was a great day! Hope to see you all again soon :D

Haha! I've had a fascination with New York squirrels for quite some time! They're just so cheeky in the park!

See, I'm terrified of squirrels (call it a quirk). So I was really amused by the title. :)
