The villa I stayed in Dubai

Ah Dubai, the city we’ve all heard and read so much about lately. Being here, the city is all that, and much more! Dubai is a city of excess and extravagance. With the world’s only 7-star hotel (albeit self-proclaimed) Burj al Arab, the world’s highest skyscraper Burj Dubai (it literally is twice the height of all the surrounding skyscrapers), the soon-to-be-completed largest mall in the world, the 3 Palm Islands in the works (one of which is mostly complete and buildings have started going up already), and the World Islands, Dubai has done all it can to flaunt itself as the ideal hub in the middle east. With all the infrastructure and luxurious amenities in place, it is not hard to see why Dubai is rapidly becoming one of the top vacation spots in the world!

After landing, I was greeted by the chauffeur and taken to the villa.

The pool where I spent many a nights
The villa was gorgeous with its own swimming pool overlooking the Dubai Creek and a golf course. After catching up on some sleep, I spent my first day in Dubai at the Mall of the Emirates. While not quite as large as West Edmonton Mall and definitely not as massive as the Dubai Mall to open later this year, the Mall of the Emirates is quite a sight in its own way. It houses Ski Dubai, an indoor downhill skiing arena, and the only place where many locals have ever seen “snow.”

I spent the otherwise quiet evening sneaking into the golf course and driving some golf balls into the river and sitting in the pool recovering from the many days on the road sipping Hennessy. Definitely can’t complain about the first day in Dubai.
