What a long journey!

Blog Entry Day 13 -15 From Mozambique to Port Elizabeth Apr 16, '08 5:21 AM
for everyone

I am losing track of the days as it goes by...especially with the long travelling distance.

Tofo to Maputo (Within Mozambique) distance of 375km took me 8 hours.

Maputo to Pretoria (Mozambique to South Africa) a distance of 442km - took me another 10 hours.

Pretoria to Port Elizabeth (winthin South Africa) a distance of 1133km took me 2 hours because I took a flight.
Thank goodness for that as my ass is beginning to hurt!

When I was booking the bus ticket from Maputo to Johannesburg, I saw that I will arrive in Johannesburg at 330am and Pretoria at 530am and since both are about equal distance to Tambo Johanessburg International airport, I thought I will go to pretoria since I will be arriving about day break that means it gives me more time to sleep and also safer upon arrival and to move about the city.

Imagine my shock when I was woken up from my sleep to realise that the bus has arrive earlier.. way earlier and I was in Pretoria at 330am.

Geez.. I am not going to get into a taxi or go any where in the middle of the night in Johannesburg or Pretoria.
In the end, I made the decision to hang around the bus station as there were 2 security guards patrolling but imagine it was freezing cold at about 10 degrees celsius and my thickest clothing was my long sleeve pullover. I was so desperate to keep myself warm that I even used my socks as gloves and standing up to stay awake. I was so thankful when the bus offices opens there doors at 530am and I went in to keep myself warm till day light.

The good thing about being stuck at the bus station is that I have the most interesting conversations with the local people. There was this strange Indian man who asked if I mind if you takes a picture of me which I promptly told him "yes, I do mind.. a lot"
He took it lightly with a smile and in the end bought me and Esta coffee instead.

Esta, comes from Nairobi, Kenya and have been running her own clothing business in Nelspruit South africa for the last 10 years. She is a smart funny lady and we share similar viewpoints on life and being an independent and single at our age.. We both give each other a high -five when we talk about our mums rolling their eyes when they worry about our single status :)

As we part ways after our coffee, I promise to look her up if my path takes me to Nelspruit one day!

Brrrrr, I need to get some warmer clothings as Port Elizabeth is getting quite cool now. Love this place and wouldnt mind retiring here when I am old :)

Nelson Mandela Bay is gorgoeus and I spend many hours here with just a book and watching surfers out in the ocean.  This is the first stop that I am slowing down and even made time for a movie yesterday..

after 2 nights of good rest and relaxing, I am ready to move on to the next part of the Garden Route - Kysna.

Life is good and I am getting use to do nothing as my inner body clock slows down.
