The Haghia Sophia Mosque

Merhaba (hello) from Istanbul, Türkey.  This is our first day, took a while to finally find the Orient Youth Hostel ( - we (my friend Leslie & I) have to follow poor street directions.  We ate our first lunch at the rooftop of the Hostel which has a panoramic view of Istanbul.  Yes, I was slightly suffering from jet lag.  Everybody (strangers) is talking to us selling carpet, food, hotel, taxi ride, etc.

Ate our first türkish food, the best - türkish kebab beef with rice and salad.  Planning to be at the local Türkish baths (hamam - tonight for some sauna & body massage.  I was bummed out that my fantasy body rubber would be some HOT blonde chick but reality checked it.  It was an overweight woman who can be your Aunt with girt rubbing you down - it can give you nightmares...  Oh well, at least it was authentic experience.

Erkan, a cool türkish hostel staff, gave us discount because I'm such a 'charmer'.  We booked a few day city trips:  a walking tour to the Haghia Sophia & the Blue Mosque, Spice Market & a boat cruise in the Bosporus.  gule gule, Arlene

P.S. The great thing about Istanbul, is the above ground subway, it's very clean.  Plus, they can speak English + food is just A++.  I ate alot of kebabs while I was there + fries.
