Rocky Mountain high in Colorado, pt 1
My plane touched down to Dallas/Fort Worth airport after only 3 hours of sleep. The night before, I was hanging-out with an old schoolmate of mine who I haven't seen in 10 years. I was waiting for about 1 hour for Joanne to pick me up at the Starbucks branch in Flushing, Queens - a very Asian area in Queens. I wanted to deck her because after putting a full day of work, dropped the car with my sister + lugging all my heavy luggage to the last stop of the 7 train - I was TIRED. We pretty much just have Friday night to catch up with 10 years of stories. Gab, gab, gab, we went to bed around 2 AM.
But I digress, DFW airport in Texas is an awesome place for a lay-over. I wanted to buy a Texas t-shirt or a sweatshirt but it was not on sale. My plane few over Colorado. WOW! What mountain ranges!!! They still have snow on them. Denver is located in the valley area so the temperature is warmer compared to the mountains. Colorodo has land, space, it was HUGE. The views from the sky is majestic.
My gf, Krystal, and her buddies picked me up at the passenger curb area. Of course, they took FOREVER to get me because Erik's car ran out of gas at the highway. For some 'down home' Colorado food, we headed to El Jardin Mexican Restaurant (http://www.iloveeljardin.com) at Commerce City. Supposedly, this is the 'ghetto spanish' area - with trailer park houses to boot. But I've seen worse in NYC so its all good. The food is out of this world!!! Really, I thought the family run restaurants in Sunset Park, Brooklyn was authentic but El Jardin tops it. Check it out. Even the former boxer George Foreman ate here.
Erik, Krystal's former roommate, lives in a cool area called Platte Street - just a stone throws away from Coors baseball stadium. The condo/apartment building is for young folks, clean + it has a gym, swimming pool and a jacuzi - standard. For a one bedroom and a $1,000 rent a month, I think this place is luxury (yeah, I wish they have this in Brooklyn, Fat Chance!)
We stayed home the first night because the next day we went to Keystone for a full day of skiing!!!
