Day 5 New Orleans
March 1, 2006
We defiantely had to start putting some good driving in so we left the hotel early and our freind got a flight back to Maine out of New Orleans later in the afternoon. So we were off once again we had missed Fat Tuesday and at this point it was beiging to look like wasted time. after driving for awhile we finally came into New Orleans and we were shocked! When we were driving the strectch of I-10 between Mobile and New Orleans we saw alot of missing or damaged billboard signs alot of debris in the woods on the side of the highway but still shocked none the less when we rolled into New Orleans. Buildings missing walls and alot of stuff was still closed. Houses borded up or just plain destroyed 1 year later and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina could still be felt and seen everywhere.
I was sad to see evrything like it was we found a place to park the truck and we got out to explore the city. Along the way remnants of MRE packets could be seen along the streets but once we found the French Quater things seemed to change stores were open poeple were walking around I felt a little better seeing that. we vistited the French Market and a couple other stores picked up some Mardi Gras beads and some other souveniers and then it was time to take my freind back to the airport so I left my brother to find the Hard Rock Cafe and we went back to the truck and off to the airport. The first airport I took him to was the wrong one and now time was running out so across the city we drove to the other airport where I dropped him off and then shortly after leaving he called me and said they wernt going to let him on the plane because he want a 1/2 hour early after some srguing he finally got on a flight and I was headed back to pick up my brother as we were leaving the city we looked one more time and thier were cars with broken axles windows ect... under the bridges and overpasses it was still a little hard to believe the sun was now going down and we made it to Houston before I was too tired to drive anymore. We found a hotel and stopped for the night tired and kind of hungry.
The Superdome and a sign letting...
