Our first aurora borealis!!

Healy Travel Blog › entry 4 of 10 › view trip summary

Admittedly, Alaskan Winters are not for everyone. But for those who are so inclined, a world of white awaits.

Our first aurora borealis!!

Just after dark, I noticed a glow in the sky to the north.  Around 11:00 the glow started to move and to have some red tinges.  It was barely above the horizon, and it didn't last long, but that was okay.  Erin and I had seen our first aurora.  The photos show up greener than they were in real life, digital cameras are most sensitive to the green wavelength.  I have since purchased a nice Canon DSLR, so the photos will be more lifelike on our next Alaska trip.
