WEDNESDAY: DAY 20:  For breakfast I had Hashbrowns which I just love. It was hazy and cool out driving the TROTTERNISH PENINSULA but before that we stopped at the Bank of Scotland to exchange money and the rate was 1.96 to change $750 and get 378 pounds back was sickening! Although this was one of the better rates compared to others at this time. At 10:30am we had a GLASS BOTTOM BOAT tour that was 9.50 pounds with Family Pride II boat. We got a minibus which took us from the tourist office to Broadford Pier. It took us out around Broadford Bay and it was a smaller boat with about 10 of us. We didn't see anything too exciting in the water, mostly small fish and plants but the mountain scenery was very nice. Complimentary coffee, tea & Shortbread were offered.

Old Man of Storr

We got on the A87 past PORTREE driving the Peninsula counter-clockwise approaching OLD MAN OF STORR which is a rock formation whick is 160 feet high.We did not climb it, only walking around the area & viewed it from the road. We drove about 10 miles to view MEALT WATERFALL & KILT ROCK. The waterfall is 300 feet. Kilt Rock is black basalt columns that form what looks like Pleats in a Kilt on this cliff. This area was a viewing point that was fenced off. You know it's a DANGEROUS area when there is a fence; most cliff areas are not fenced or walled off in Scotland, Ireland or Northern Ireland! We also heard a strange noise that sounded like a boat but we didn't see any and it was almost Spooky.

Sea Chasm

A few miles north we approached the QUIRAING; 950 foot high MOUNTAINS with weird formations of pinnacles. We took a road at STAFFIN that went through the peninsula. This road was narrow with hairpin bends. We got to the top ok & there was a Backpackers Bus & a couple other cars in the car park. There are rock formations called THE PRISON & THE NEEDLE and a flat area in the middle called THE TABLE. The scenery was Desolate but Spectacular and very Windy! So windy that I could barely stand up while getting my picture taken! The wind actually pushed me a few times! We got back on the main road and parked along the road to walk the footpath to the:

ruinous DUNTULM CASTLE that was home to the CLAN MACDONALD including FLORA MACDONALD ( the woman who hid Bonnie Prince Charlie).

Loch Ainart as seen from our glass bottom boat
It was abandoned in 1730 for ARMADALE Castle because of GHOSTS. This was also a dangerous area with a sign proclaiming that. Duntulm means "Fort on the green grassy headland" and is also "home of piping". It is supposedly severely Haunted with 3 ghost stories with a horrific history. One being of a a nursemaid that held a baby son out the window to see the ships & "accidently" dropped him to his death in the sea! This is why I don't like to hold Babies! lol

We then drove to the Skye Museum but didn't tour it & instead went up this road to a CEMETERY that has the grave of FLORA MACDONALD and is said she was buried in a sheet slept in by Bonnie Prince Charlie! There was also an Unfinished PIPER'S grave that was eerie to me.

We finished the Peninsula and stopped in PORTREE for an early 4pm dinner which included cole slaw. fries and Scampi. It was good but there was no sauce on the scampi. We figured this was where the bikers were staying & we had our eyes peeled for them but no sign. We were ready to go out by 8pm which is early for us. lol We went to the CROWLIN BAR  again. We saw a guy that reminded us of Sean Bean so we called him "Fake Sean"  then later a guy named Ian came over & started talking to us. Then his 2 friends joined us, Jason and Garrett. They were really nice & we chatted til the bar closed at midnight.
