FRIDAY: DAY 1: We left Heathrow around noon for Aberdeen in Scotland. We got into Aberdeen airport about 1:30pm and picked up our rental car. I'm still not sure how ALMOST all our luggage fit in the trunk of our car but it did! We don't pack lightly! The car was green so we named it "Jude" . We left the parking lot within 10 minutes this time! (Previously the last time we rented a car, it took us 20 minutes to leave the rental lot!) We drove to BANCHORY and did a guided tour thru DRUM CASTLE . The original Tower was built in the 13th century with additions added in 1619 and 1872 of an adjoining Jacobean mansion & Victorian lairds. There was a sign in the original tower to keep out due to BATS! We bought a NATIONAL TRUST of SCOTLAND MEMBERSHIP since we were touring many of their properties & it saved us some money.
We walked the gardens then went to STONEHAVEN to our B&B; WOODSIDE OF GLASSLAW GUEST HOUSE. We ate at the OLD SHIP INN where they had really good Macaroni & Cheese with Cole Slaw and French Fries! We walked around the harbor and went to DUNNOTTAR CASTLE for sunset but we were actually on the east coast, oh well. It was still a dramatic sight.
Then it was back to the B&B for the night since we were up for like 36 hours but I didn't go to bed til 10:30pm which was the latest 1st night in the UK for me out of 4 trips to Great Britian!
