Our Hotel in Kildrummy with our rental car (behind the date)

TUESDAY; DAY 5: Another day of Castles! After breakfast at 8:30, which included Haddock, tea and toast,  we walked the gardens by the hotel and besides the usual flowers & plants, there was a small building with findings from excavations done in the area. I lost one of my disposable cameras somewhere in the garden but it only had 2 pictures on it. Thank goodness! It only sprinkled rain in the morning.

CRAIGIEVAR CASTLE was first built in the early 17th century (1626 to be exact) & is considered Grampian's FAIRYTALE Castle. I could see why with the turrets! It was built by William Forbes and houses a collection of family portraits with 17th and 18th century furniture. It is still alot like it was when the Forbes family lived in it.

After the tour we walked around the grounds.

CRATHES CASTLE  took 40 years to build starting in the mid 1500's. It had round towers and overhanging Turretts and the Burnett family lived in it. There was a HORN of LEYS on display that was presented by KING ROBERT THE BRUCE. I wanted to take a picture of it but NO pictures were allowed inside & there were people watching. It also included a "TRIP STEP" which was intended to trick attackers climbing the staircase. It is also haunted by a ghost, the Green Lady. We toured part of the gardens which had pretty hedges & then left from there to try to catch the last tour for:

CASTLE FRASER  When we arrived, we were told that they had just taken the last group in, (which was ONE MINUTE before we asked about the tour!) so we took pictures of the outside & decided to tour this at the end of our trip.

(Which we did) I liked the looks of this castle. It dates from the 16th century, building started in 1575-1636 by the 6th laird, Michael Fraser and has a Z-plan design.

We spent that night at SWALLOW THAINSTANE HOTEL in INVERURIE. Since it was still early, we went in the pool & hot tub which we didn't know that we had to turn it on. lol Someone turned it on for us, probably thinking stupid Americans! lol We had dinner in the hotel pub and I ended up eating a bacon cheeseburger with fries. We stayed in the bar afterwards & met a man and his father from MARYLAND! The CIDER they had was WHITE DIAMOND. I LUV Cider!

I had some Hard cider named "Woodpecker" in the Cotswolds in 2005. Fabulous stuff. :)
