Hotel Tropical on the Brazil side of Iguassu.
Friday morning. Dad and I walked down to Mambo and sat at Fran’s and had breakfast. I had a very typical Brazilian breakfast, with ½ papaya, a cinnamon espresso, some OJ and some cheese toast. I sat in the sun, in my jeans and black shirt and soaked it all up! J We walked back home, and the taxi driver picked us up shortly for our ride to the airport. The taxi driver is a friend of Brian’s (dad’s friend from work) and they had prearranged everything. It was much longer, through downtown Sao Paulo through traffic than I expected. We checked in at the airport and flew for Sao Paulo to Iguassu.
The power of the water, the mist coming back
When we landed in Iguassu
, we went straight for the falls.
I am really fortunate that we did that, because on Friday the weather was perfect – about 75 degrees and sunny.
We went down to the falls on the Brazil
The park closed at 5pm, and we made it back to the hotel and checked in.
They had informed us that the part closes at 5pm, and since we were staying in the park, we didn’t think we had any choice but to stay in the hotel for the night.
We got our room, dumped our stuff and settled on the porch, watching the sun set on Argentina
(across the river).
It was very nice.
I had a Kir Royale, Mom a Diet Coke, and we ordered dad a Jack Daniels.
It was just another day in paradise!
Dinner was non-descript at the hotel…menu looked terrific, execution was less than stellar.
We finished the night sitting in the bar, listening to a gorgeous Brazilian man play the piano, and a run of the mill lounge singer backing him up.
We drank a really good Tawny Port
, Santo Ramos.
The Hotel Tropical was a very nice hotel.
It was built in the late 20s or 30s and has been maintained well.
The funny thing is, dad said that it reminded him of that movie Dirty Dancing, where Patrick Swazye and Jennifer Gray are out back causing trouble and we are in the front part where all of the adults are drinking it up and playing cards.
Hmmm…do you think he’s notice if I went to find trouble!?!
