My British friend Andy has become so much of a Ugandan, that sometimes he challenges the hell out of my citizenship, lol! Andrew (Andy) has dedicated his time to writing about the beauty of my country. Through his research work, he has managed to publish two books on Uganda's great rift Valley and two maps of Uganda's National Parks Queen Elizabeth National Park and Murchison Falls National Park: Both very popular tourist destinations in Uganda. In the past 6 years, Andy has had a more personal project, which is building his dream vacation home on an island lot he bought a few years ago. This Island is on Lake Victoria, it takes 40 minutes by boat or 15 minutes by canoe then 20 minutes of ‘boda boda" rides to get to this beautiful land over looking the lake.
Andy had promised me that whenever it was that I happened to come home to Kampala, he would like to show me his new project and dream home. Through e-mail, he had kept me abreast with the building progression, but nothing prepared me for what I saw once we got there. Being the British that he is, Andy has a real dry sense of humor and that is where the title of this blog comes in. Lunch it was he said - a picnic by the lake. My friend Agnes and I headed to Le Chateau where Andy would meet us. Le Chateau is a Belgium restaurant in Gabba that is well known for it’s French cuisine and expensive dinners.
We were not the only passengers on the boat, we had some business owners who had been shopping for re-stocks: one of them was a ‘Haji’ Islamic leader who was so amused by the fact that we wanted to take photographs. When we asked him to take a shot of us, he hesitated saying he was not sure he coup operate the ‘white man’s’ equipment heheeee!!.
