There is so much to this that I need time to write about it because this day also happened to be Kevin's actual birthday. Desire's birthday is not until July 16th, but since I was not going to be there to celebrate on that date, I decided to celebrate with her while in Kampala. It was nothing formal, Kevin had decided earlier that for his birthday, he wanted a barbecue so we decided to have a barbecue as well ad Desire's birthday as well. Agnes did most of the planning and arranging for the food, the barbecue guy and the charcoal stove. She invited her family and I brought my family and we had ourselves the barbecue to remember. Desire was having so much fun dancing and making friends all over again with her cousins. Her uncle Jimmy seems t be the highlight of this trip, she would not do much without asking where uncle Jimmy was.
Desire has celebrated birthdays differently each year since her birth. Her first birthday was celebrated back home in Uganda, I made a big party and invited all my friends who had children. I do not think she remembers a thing, but I captured the memories in color. Her second birthday found I had relocated to the southern part of town with a new employer, we celebrated with my boss' children who were eager to meet Deisre for the first time. Her third birthday was celebrated similar to her second in kampala. By the fourth we had relocated to the United States, so my husband organized a small family birthday and thoughtfully invited the daughter of his ex-wife - who happened to be the only child within a fifteen mile radius of our home. Her fifth birthday, I hada disney themed park with huge water fountains and castles, invited her friends from the Montessori school to join her in celebrating at the Patagonia Park. Her fifth birthday had a family theme and we invited a handful of her friends. The sixth and seventh birthdays found her in england with her auntie.
I could not miss the eighth, so I made it happen with a more family and traditional theme to it. She had lots of fun.
