Yiipppeeeeee a day off and right into paradise!!!!!!!
March 8, 2009
Oh what a wonderful feeling...oh what a wonderful day.......
Boy at last I have a weekend off of work...I couldn't believe it...I was so excited I could hardly contain myself.
Okay look I know I have been complaining all winter about the wretched snow...but that is driving to work in the stuff....
But now I get to go and play...what an awesome day.
The smell of pine, cedar, and snow
Fresh air...the smell is divine (beats traffic, gas, diesel, honking horns, sirens...and people yelling at one another.....
Ahhhhh...the peace, the snow, the sun on my face (the sun burn)....ohhhhhhhh my feet were twitching I could hardly sleep....
The day was a wee bit chilly at the start of the day, but I headed out to my friends at 700am sharp...I got to his place and we were meeting everybody near small town Canada. My friend was taking a snowmobile, we already had the snow cat on the logging road..and we were picking up one teacher and 8 kids that attend a world school here in Victoria (no I can't remember the name). The kids come here from all over the world to attend this school and some have never been up into the mountains. I met kids form Germany, The Netherlands, Uruguay, Spain, Paris...etc...I can't remember all the places. They were spending four days on this trail and staying in one of the cabins and hiking everywhere they could. One small problem was I did not see one person with snow shoes, or skis...soooooooo it is good that there are things in all of the cabins that they could probably use.
There was only about 6-8 feet of snow this year. ..and the base was really hard...had frozen many times and it had only snowed about 6 inches the night before...so it was really good for snow shoeing, or skiing, or even walking as the base was well packed.
So we got to mile 3 then we had to take the snow cat and the snowmobile up to about mile 11 where some of the trail heads begin. We dropped off teacher and said kids...and wished them on their merry way...
We picked up a couple of wayward friends trekking about...then headed to the tea hut for lunch.
We saw only a few martin tracks in the snow. No cougar, bear or wolf...but maybe they were smart and were still sleeping in:):)
By this time it started to get nice outside, the sun started to shine, I could smell the trees and the snow...it was all so fresh.
We got to the hut and my feet for some reason were frozen...so off came my boots...and on went the gas heater (no electricity up on the mountains)....warmed up my feet, had lunch...and then we had to start to head back to the truck. All in all about four hours of snowshoeing...lots of fun...I could have stayed out there longer if it was not going to get dark soon...
It was about 800pm by the time I came through my own door...totally happy....
It was a great day...
I miss it out there already...but will go again soon...when the rain stops now!!!!!!
Enjoy the walk with me:):):):)
