Up one a hill...far...far...away....
September 27, 2008
Today we were taking some people who had never been up to this fine trail...(newbies). It is amazing to see new people come to the trail for the first time. It is fun to watch the expressions and see the excitement on their faces.
I knew we were not going to see much wildlife today. We were going to hike about 15 kilometers through an area I had not been to this year yet. So it was going to be fun for me too.
My friend packed up his dog (I don't take mine up there as he is getting older and does not like the smell of all the wildlife, and he does not like walking as far anymore either), and away we went.
We met the people close to the trail, and started the drive up the mountain. We got about half way up and we saw a woman driving a motor home. ..I would never believe a motor home would make it up those logging roads but this one did. It was amazing. Hunting season is in full swing, so the bears and deer and usually running deeper into the forest as they can...you can hear the gunshots off in the distance..I cringe every time I hear one.
We got to the trail with about 8 people 6 dogs and lots of chatter.
The hike was worth all the trouble, the blueberries were at their (almost) best, the colors are still just starting to change, the weather started out cloudy and foggy, but by afternoon the sun came out and kissed my face and made me warm, that and lots of downhill and uphill hiking this day.
The smell was all pine and pitch, rain and and morning dew....what a great day...
Dew kissed plants, sun kissed grasses and water for the dogs to play in....and not a bit of wildlife to be seen.
There was enough noise with the people chattering, the birds singing, and the dogs barking.....
Lunch was awesome...lots of different cheeses from around the world, home made chutney, breads, wine, and song...lots of great stories and good company. After lunch a hard hike (almost all uphill), back to the vehicles and then home...what a sleep I had...
Come for the day with me and see the beauty along the way........
