But we were taking 60 people out to the trail today so they could see the avalanche lilies in their full glory. There was a request for donations for the people of a certain community to help feed those in need. We planted a community garden with many plots, some for people who live in apartments or condo's and don't have a plot to plants fruits or vegetables...and some we plant for those who are less fortunate and can't afford to put much food on their plate. so the money made over the last week goes towards all of that. It's a good cause, and the people who go to see this spectacular site have a feast for their eyes.
So off we started we had the meeting place in town..many of these people have said they are seasoned hikers and know exactly what they are doing...they know everything about the bush. Uh huh...sure you do...I am quietly standing back making my own little observations. So one good thing is that every single person had hiking boots...most were brand new (not a good thing if you have not broken them in)...but at least they were on the feet. Hiking boots are important on that trail...some rough terrain and also very muddy and snowy at this time of year still.
Next was getting 60 people into cars that would o onto the logging road...My friend provided three big vehicles and most people had cars that would make it up the mountains roads.
Some had dogs.
So we all got into appropriate vehicles..my friend told me I had to drive his wee tracker...I am not happy about this...I don't mind driving the highways...but there are some places on that logging road that are HELL to drive in...so step and rocky my heart starts to beat before I get there. I am grateful today I don't have to go on that part of the road...yiipeeee!!!
Meeting spot number two...we have to stop and phone the logging company where they are doing some logging to let them know we are coming through...it's amazing when do drive by...every logging truck is stopped waiting patiently while we drive past.
So now it's up to the trail. there are four different hikes going on at the same time. Hike one is the easy hike..lopping around the trail...taking photos...only maybe 4 hours long..hike two a little harder hike...mostly down hill and flat surface and you go a little further...hike three mostly up and down hills...a little rougher terrain...hike four more up than down...see more of the trail less rest time.
So three different trail-heads to trail we will all pass each other somewhere.
Rule number one...LISTEN to you leader...they know what they are doing..they have been here since forever, they know the trail better than they know the back of their hands. STICK TOGETHER...DO NOT WANDER OFF YOUR NOT CHILDREN WE SHOULD NOT NEED TO TIE EVERYONE TOGETHER.
Rule number two..Please do not just tromp all over everything...some of the meadows are protected for a reason..one of them is not to tromp.
Rule number three....Please do not throw your stuff on the ground...if you pack it in...then pack it out.
Rule number four..relax and have fun, take photos, smell the fresh air...this is not a race o get to the end in five minutes.
Rule number five..LISTEN TO YOUR LEADER...DON'T WANDER OFF
Okay so now we got everyone going...all groups under all leaders..first stop the lilies...ohhhh everyone out...time to take photos..no the flowers are not edible...yes you can pick some and take them home...no they wont die...please don't pick the bulbs...they wont survive if you plant them in your garden...they only grow on the mountain :) Holyyyyy clicking...I never heard so much...it was fun to watch everone on how they take photos...all the ohhhhssss and awwwwwwwsss:)
Okay the lilies were in bloom, but not at their peak yet...lots of rain and not enough sun...but today was a good day to get out...and we still saw hundreds or thousands...
Off to the cabin ...through the woods...
Got to the cabin with out little group...now it was time for lunch...and a view to die for...everyone was clicking away once again...some people never being up this high...it was strange for me, because I have taken this beautiful place for granted in some ways, because I have been going here for so many years...that I have become spoiled in a way. I love it here every time I come...but I keep forgetting the first time I came and was in such awe of the whole thing...so it was kinda fun to watch everyone for their first time...Kinda made me humble all over again...and I looked at it like brand new.......
So everyone was now splitting up...some meeting half way through exchanging keys...some meeting us and going the other way.
It's a wonde4r everyone got home :)
So we stayed at the cabin for a hour waiting fro group 4 to join us after their trek to our cabin...we they started out way through some of the lakes and groves.
I will come back with more stories about those lakes a groves once my friend tell me them all in order.
So group four got there...now a few rules...listen to the leader...stay with each other...dont wander off.
The first two hours were great...much chattering...some cant tell bear scat from cougar or wolf...??????
I brought up the rear making sure everyone was going where they were supposed to and that no one lagged behind.
So we got to raven lake...much photos happening...we start off on the trail again...four people said more photos ...okay.
Two of their friends needed to backtrack a bit...and the four people went off the trail and were heading the wrong way...GESHHHHHHHHH
So lesson one....not all people listen...not all people seems to be able to follow tracks...not one of them knew the word turn right :)
So after much chattering..and how much farther do we have to go....how long exactly will this take....
Are we there yet????????????????
My forehead was getting sore with much banging against the trees....
I was happy to see the car...
We all got to mile nine...not one person missing.......
All in all a good day...I still got to see my trail....
and the avalanches lilies....
I will add the history in a day or two.....................
