Hi ho Hi ho...it's off to be a packhorse I go..........:):)
April 19, 2009
Yep what a day it is going to be today. So first things first...what do I need today?
Food and coffee very important...I need to eat once I start having to pack 30 pound boards on my back...how did I agree to all this???
It was easy really...the little tea hut is going to be an information hut of sorts...telling of peoples stories up on the trail...information about the flora and fauna...some things only grow there on that mountain.
About the animals like the Whiskey Jacks...wolves..cougars, bears...
How to tell where they have been...tracks...
How to be prepared and you are here type of thing.
So there were seven of us who volunteered to pack some of theses boards into the cabin, snowshoeing is the easiest way in (well other than having a helicopter to fly it in). ..but we all wanted to pack and have some fun along the way while the snow is still here.
It was beautiful at home when I left in the wee morning hours, the sun was just starting to rise, I could feel the heat of the morning already.
By the time I got to the meeting place, it was bright and sunny out...but by the time we got to the road where the snow cat was..it was a little cooler there, cloudy and a bit of mist. I though it may just start raining, but it didn't...it really was just a nice cloudy day some spec's of sun and all around good day for packing board 1 hour in mostly up hill...35 minutes out...mostly down hill.
It's was worth it, once we got to the cabin we warmed up and made tea, had lunch, started heading back to the snow cat...had a few snow ball fights, did some snowshoeing as far as we could go, before having to head home at around 430pm...then it is another 1.5 hour drive to the starting point and another 35 minutes for me to get home from there.
I stayed for dinner at my friends place before heading home...all exercised out, filled up, content...had a nice warm bath then slept like a baby.....
It was an awesome day...
It does fill my soul, recharges my batteries...and can't wait to go next weekend.
It is survival 101 next weekend...I must pitch my tent:):)
Come along for the fun...don't forget to bring your lunch your going need it after packing in that piece of board.
