Flight from Singapore to Sydney is fine - hey what happened - we lost a day !!!!!
The flight out of Singapore is nice - we can see the lights of Singapore along the Singapore Straits then darkness - out across the Indian ocean.
As we fly east I can see a lovely moon rising over the ocean.... a deep red first ... then brighter until its a brilliant silvery light ....
Out of the darkness we see some lights as we cross the coast - Port Hedland - a mining town on the West coast - unknown we will visit this again - moving south east we cross the Great Sandy Desert - out of the darkness I see some brilliant glows on the horizon - looked like bush fires burning across great areas - we found out later the fires are caused either by the farmers or indigenous people back burning or lightning strikes.
We know the Wet season is coming ..... I see storms long the North horizon towards Darwin - lightning is crossing the skies - its lighting up the clouds - really beautiful sight - what a welcome!
No lights now ... just darkness as we cross the Simpson desert - what a huge country - the flight across will take 5 hours!
As we cross Adelaide we see some signs of life ..... but not much!
Dawn is coming soon .... I can see the first light coming - a deep purple to the east.
The dawn is turning to red I can see more on the ground now - I can see the bush stretching away below us .... its totally empty... isolated ....... spooky.
20 mins to landing now .... I can see the outskirts of Sydney now .
touch down ....... my first steps in Australia - after such a long wait I am finally here.......
I am very excited !
We pass through Customs and finally I am out in Sydney - its cool - only 12c - but will be warm later - predicted to be 30c - great - it was only 3c when we left Germany!
We catch the train to the city - we are stopping at the Y - the backpackers hostel in the city - easy to find - we dump the bags and to avoid jet lag get out to the city and start the sight seeing.
Darling Harbour is nice and I finally get my picture in front of the opera house and bridge - Sunburn! Ohh man of course the sun so strong.
Karina is dragging me round - I feel tired now - we go to the botanical gardens and find a colony of bats there - eeeehhhhh - really spooky - they are huge - like 1m across - all squealing - a gardener upsets them with a mower and suddenly the air is full of bats!
Must keep walking .... so tired .... we get some food but i feel so tired I am not really interested
we managed to stay awake till 2000 - bed - within 30 secs I am asleep - we sleep 12 hours solid!
