Metropolis, Illinois

Then it was over the bridge, an old metal bridge with metal grate roadway, that kept us down to 25 mph, to Illinois where we visited Metropolis. And what is Metropolis best known for you ask. Silly, think about it. Of course, Superman! They have a museum and a few action style statues and the largest Superman statue in the world. It sits right next to the court house where it helps fight for justice to this very day.

Also, we visited Fort Massac State Park, which is located quite nearby. It sits beside the river and the fort is nearly complete to this day. Much has been restored, but it looks quite nice from nearly every angle. It was raining pretty hard this afternoon, so all of our shots were from the car.

Jeff, we only went to Metropolis and then back across to Kentucky to head towards Memphis. It was only to say we had been in IL.

Roger, I'll link your bridge pics to the Bridges of the World TB Group. You didn't make it to Carbondale where I went to school? What about Cairo where the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers have thier confluence? Did you enter Shawnee National Forest at least? ;-) ~Jeff
