Lunch stop

This year we planned to make a cross-country trip from our home in central Califonia to Key West Florida and then back by a slightly more northern route. First plan is about 45 days.

Lunch stop

Pecos, Texas was the first town in Texas we stopped in.  It was lunch time and we were thirsty, so we started looking around.  This is a pretty small town with a population of under 10,000, so finding a place to eat wasn’t that easy.  Turns out there are only eight places to eat here and two of them are fast-food.  We didn’t see the Dairy Queen but we did find the Sonic Drive-In.  A hamburger and fries and a super large coke turned was our choice.  After lunch we were back on the road for Fort Stockton, about 50 miles away where we stopped for an oil change and then east on I-10 to Ozona, just a little over a hundred miles further.

The old 50's style drive-in
The small town of Pecos, Texas boasts only 8 places to eat and one of them is the Sonic Drive-In. We were very thirsty and ready for a quick bite so we pulled in for a quick lunch. Sonics are a throwback to the very old drive-in when the carhops wore shoe skates and delivered everything to your car. A few still do. You yell your order over a microphone in the menu box next to your car and they prepare it quickly and bring it out to you. You sit in your car to eat or take it with you home or out onto the road. Their 3,400 locations are in 34 states across the U. S. This is another of the fast-food style restaurants found in the states, and they have done very well over the years. They are always adding to their menu, with lots of special soft drinks and juice drinks. We had a hamburger, fries and very large soft drinks.
