This year we planned to make a cross-country trip from our home in central Califonia to Key West Florida and then back by a slightly more northern route. First plan is about 45 days.

Kingman, AZ

Judy suggested that she would drive the last leg of the drive today so we could stretch another hundred miles or more. We actually got just over 400 miles today. We pulled into Kingman about 7:15 p.m., got our room and went out to dinner. We knew that there was a Golden Corral here so we had looked forward to it most of the day. We are at another Best Western tonight and this one is about the opposite from last nights. A very full three star, with a large room with a sofa and matching chair and two queen beds. A very large dressing area and quite large bathroom. This room also had both a microwave and mini-refrigerator. Internet is hard cabled and quick. The only down side is that it is on the same side of the street as the main line of the railroad which runs thousands of cars west and east daily. I didn’t mention it yesterday but our old place yesterday was right across the street from the same main line. And worse, there were several street crossings where the trains were required to blow their horns. It was bad, real bad. Tonight, although the same numbers of trains are going by it is barely noticeable because there are no crossings close by, so no horns.

3 Stars,
Tonight we are back on Route 66 and even on the same side of the street as the railroad. But what a difference, because tonight there are no close streets crossing the tracks so there are no horns and whistles going off, and the rails have been dropped several feet down so the sound is nil. Once or twice we felt a slight rumble as a big train passed, but it never disturbed our sleep.

This is a very nice 3 start facility with 101 rooms on two floors. Our room was large, included both a microwave, and refrigerator, and all of the other amenities we’ve seen on this trip. In the morning we had a nice breakfast featuring make your own waffle station, hot and cold cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, hard boiled eggs, fresh baked pastries, a selection of 4 juices, herbal teas and coffee.

Golden Coral restaurants have been around for awhile, actually since 1973. As is true of all of the places in their chain, they offer a huge variety at every meal, whether its breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and somehow on the weekends they add even more. Whether you like soups and salads, meats or fish, there is something there you will enjoy. It’s all served buffet style and you can go back as many times as your stomach will allow. There are staff to remove empty plates and leave fresh ones that keep you happy as well. Most of the food is average or good.
