Fort Myers
April 28, 2008
From Gibsonton, we drove on south to Fort Myers for the night. We are at the Best Western Inn & Suites tonight.
We had a quick dinner at the Wendy's across the street from our hotel. For a good quick meal it's hard to beat.
But before the end of the night we wanted to take in another place that we had heard about. It is at the Shell Factory in North Fort Myers, about a fifteen-minute ride. It is called the Waltzing Waters, and of course you have to wait until after dark. The show began at 8:15 and lasted for a good half-hour, but it really should have been a little later. The charge for the show was only $5 per person and we both felt it was well worth it.

Just sweet candy for the eyes and ears!
The Shell Factory started back in the early 50s and has seen many ups and down since. Fires, hurricanes, and even the changes in Highways have had major effects on the business and caused it to change owners several times too.
Nowdays they have added several new and different things to help draw crowds. You will find lots of shopping, eating, Nature park, arcade and fun center for the kids and then at night what I think is the best part. Waltzing waters is a show that is presented at about 8:45 each night. They call it Liquid Fireworks. It is a special patented array of individually moving nozzles that create a truly beautiful effect. The waters jump, twist, and sway in breathtaking movements that are a delight to watch. And the whole time they have special lighting that changes and enhances the visual experience. They say that each performance is unique but it has been choreographed to the music so well that whether it be a slow classical piece or a much more modern rock and roll song the dancing water flows perfectly with the music. The show lasts for more than thirty minutes and only costs $5.00, which I thought was very cheap. This is a thrill for the eyes that should not be missed if you are in the area. The only downside is that you need to arrive very early while the stores are open to buy the gifts, shells, and trinkets you want, because after the show the stores are all closed.

Nice place
Best Western Inns and Suites in Fort Myers is rated 3 stars by AAA. This fairly large 4-story facility has 104 rooms with elevators and interior corridors. They have an outdoor pool, fitness center, computer center with printers and fax, ATM, and vending machines. Our room was nicely equipped and included all amenities including a microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker. The room also had high-speed wireless internet access. In the morning there was a full hot breakfast served, including biscuits and gravy, pancakes, scrambled eggs, toast, juices, and of course coffee.
One of the BEST fast food places in the U.S.
Dave Thomas founded Wendy’s in 1969, and it is now one of the top fast-food restaurants in the nation. Well known for its square meat patties and the fact that each burger is made to order, not in advance. Quality was one of Thomas’ most important things. And he felt that big profit was a dirty word so prices have always been low. Dave passed away a few years ago but they have maintained his values.
Okay, advertising over, so we had another good quick meal and enjoyed it. If you like a good fast food meal at a low price this is one of the best places to go.
