We had a chance to go over this wonderfully designed bridge.
After leaving Houston we headed on east and had a chance to go over the Fred Hartman Bridge. Built from 1986 to 1995 it spans the Houston shipping channel between La Port and Baytown. The diamond patterns of the towers make this a very interesting visual bridge. Because the freeway comes north before turning onto the bridge we were able to get some great pictures of it.
Then on the road for Beaumont, Texas, where we wanted to see another of the silly little things we had gleaned from RoadsideAmerica.com. In downtown Beaumont is the Fire Museum. Unfortunately it was closed today, but the huge fire hydrant was sitting in the little triangular park just across the street. Nicely painted to match the colors of a Dalmatian dog, black and white, this thirty or forty foot tall hydrant sits in all its glory. I got a couple of pictures of it.
