Last night as I finished my blog and tucked it away on-line and went to bed I thought my day was over. But at least an hour later we got a phone call from our second son from Sparks, Nevada. "Do you guys know where you are?" he shouted excitedly into the phone. Judy was puzzled and so was I. "That’s the hometown of my favorite NASCAR driver, Mark Martin!" he exclaimed, "And he has a museum there in town. You’ve just gotta go see it!" Well, he said more than that, but for the sake of this blog that’s the jist.
So this morning after a nice cold breakfast at the hotel we backtracked about two miles to the big Ford dealership and Museum. If I hadn’t, I’m afraid my son probably would never speak to me again. I’m not near the NASCAR fan that he is, but I know Mark Martin and have liked him for many years.
This was the highlight of our day. There were many of the cars he had driven, firesuits he had worn, helmets, and of course trophies he had won, along with many items you could buy as souvenirs. Now many museums do not allow you to photograph inside, but this one was different and I did my best to get good shots of every car there. So Dan, I plan on putting up some now and more when I get home.
