This year we planned to make a cross-country trip from our home in central Califonia to Key West Florida and then back by a slightly more northern route. First plan is about 45 days.

Amarillo, TX

From the road the Cadillacs look small and quite a distance off.

I guess you would call it a light breakfast this morning, because I had cereal, juice, and a small sweet roll while Judy got a couple of the smallest little sausage biscuit sandwiches have ever seen. I got a cup of coffee to go and we packed the car and got on the road.

This is a rather odd day because we will be gaining an hour as we cross the Texas/New Mexico border. So we will get to see many more miles today. We got an extra hour somewhere back several days, but somehow I didn't notice it when it happened.

Our first stop today is only about ten miles west on I-40, the famous Cadillac Ranch. It has been famous since the early seventies or late sixties when a rancher in the area buried several older Cadillacs at a strange angle nose first into the ground. Since then people have been coming by and looking and painting names and marks on the cars. We came past a town east of Amarillo where there are supposedly several Volkswagen bugs buried the same way as the Cadillac Ranch and we looked for several miles before to several miles after but we never did see it.
