Khao San Road

I travelled to Thailand last year to see my sister who was off seeing the world, I only went for 2 weeks because of uni but managed to travel around quite a bit while I was there. I started my first night in Bangkok on the famous and crazy Kao san road, arriving at night was definitely a shock! The next day we explored a bit of Bangkok while waiting for our bus to take us to the ferry to go to Koh phagnan. I will warn anyone who is planning on taking the bus, to book it through a decent company, we cut corners on this and ending up paying with my sister and her friend having baht and dollars stolen from them, about £400 in all. When you get on the bus you put your big backpacks into a compartment then go upstairs to sit, you dont even think that anyone can get to them but you'd be wrong.

While everyones upstairs sleeping, some horrible person was downstairs routing through all the bags! so make sure you have all valuables with you! we didnt realise anything had happened until we were on Koh phagnan, so our visit here started with a trip to the police station and to make it worse it then rained for the next 3 days! so not the best start to the trip. Fortunately after this it got a lot better and the sun came out. We hit the beaches of Haad rin by day and wandered around the shops and bars at night. We stayed in accomodation that was pretty basic, non-flushing toilets and a cold tap was our bathroom and the mosquito nets had holes in them but for £1.50 each a night we couldnt really moan! :) We travelled to another resort on the island but found the beaches were not as good so didnt stay long.

After Koh Phagnan we got the ferry over to Koh Samui, it was a lot better than I thought, but being told it was getting like costa del sol with the older generation moving out there it couldnt be much worse! We only stayed here for two nights before moving on to Krabi. our plan was to go over to Phi Phi Island but we were told it was really expensive to stay on so instead stayed in Krabi for 2 nights and took a boat trip that took us to 4 of the most beautiful beaches on Phi Phi. We went to the beach where the film 'the beach' was made, but were extremely disappointed, even though its a gorgeous beach it was ruined by swarms of people and about 50 motor boats all tied up along the shore.

The other beaches they took us to were stunning and you could find a spot where nobody else could be seen!

After our trip to Krabi, it was time for me to leave Thailand so that meant another very long bus journey back to Bangkok, this time we all kept our valuables on us! lol then I had a small nightmare before getting to the airport, first of all while sitting on the bus waiting for it to leave I remembered that my passport and tickets are still under the materess in my sisters hotel room! but luckily shes a fast runner so made it back before I left and then the traffic in Bangkok was ridiculous and I arrived at the airport 40 mins before my flight was about to leave! I made it though!

All in all it was definitely an experience in thailand, I learnt a lot about travelling but cant wait to go back next year to travel around more and explore it with more time.
