Tateyama Kurobe Alpine route is 37 km in length. Elevation difference of the route is 1,975m. To preserve natural scenery, it is forbidden for tourists to drive cars onto this route. We have to use several public transportation. We left Tateyama station for Bijodaira by funicular. At Bijodaira we got into a Tateyama Highland Bus to Murodo. Encircled by 3,000 meter class mountains, Murodo is 2,450 meters above sea level. The snowy gorge were really beautiful. Mountain climbers also start climbing from here. As it was hot weather, we didn't have to take a shirt with long sleeves and a jacket. When we were trekking in Murodo area, we were moved with the beauty of Mikuriga-ike(pond). We could see the mountains in the surface of the lake. We noticed a sulfur spring near the pond. We got into trolleybus to Daikanbo. Daikanbo is 2,316 meters above sea level. From there we went down to Kurobedaira by an aerial tramway. A calm beautiful Kurobe lake spread out below us. Using a funicular, we went down to Kurobe dam. Kurobe dam is 186 meters high. The tallest dams in Japan. Timidly I was looking out down at a powerful drainage from the top of the dam. I was wearing a T-shirt all the time, so I got sunburned. This dam was completed in 1963 rapid economic growth age. We enjoyed a hurried tour of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route.
