The whole trip started from a friend’s invite to visit her hometown for the Holy Week break. It was an unceasing efforts of
persuasion from Beng, promising us of a real vacation --- great food, friendly people and breathtaking sights. By just her words, we were already falling in love with Ilocos.
April 04, 2007. It was our last day of work before the Holy Week. As soon as the clock read 1730H, I, together with nine
other workmates, jumped out of the office, and kicked off for our much anticipated vacation. We divided the group into two, with five persons occupying each of the two vans that we have readied for this trip. For we want to reach our destination by 6AM, we limited our stopovers to two, one for a quick dinner in Tarlac, and a quicker coffee break in Pangasinan. We also made it a point to implement the "no sleeping policy" at least for the ten-hour drive to Laoag, to be fair with the designated driver. All possible techniques were made so as the crime of falling asleep in the car will not be committed, from cracking of corny to corniest jokes to storytelling about our childhood secrets to sharing cooking tips to laughing at each one of our "professional" boo boos. Whoa! The plan was a success! Just 10 minutes after our estimated time of arrival, we were already in Beng’s house!!! We met her amazing folks who have already prepared the rooms that we will be using. Sleepless and tired, we all went for a two-hour nap.
