Bhutan
After meeting up with my tour group (I appear to have signed up to an Aussie SAGA holiday!) we then get told that we can't fly to Bhutan as planned because the Bhutan Authorities have cancelled the flight... so we get an extra day in Kathmandu sightseeing and head to Bhutan on the 15th instead.
Bhutan is a great place to visit - loads of interesting architecture in the form of Dzongs (fortresses), Lhankhang (temples); stunning scenery as yet unspoilt by tourism plus the people are friendly and still intrigued by the foreigners in their midst.
For me, the tour was a little too staid with far too much time sat on the bus just glimpsing the countryside. The rivers and mountains we drove passed were just calling out for rafting/kayaking/trekking! Next time I'll make sure I pick a more active option.
I can also advise that Bhutan healthcare while appearing slightly old-fashioned is efficient, clean and above all FREE after falling foul of one of the local dogs.
