After stuffing ourselves at Anton's for a couple of hours, we drove to Giethoorn, which is a village about 8 kilometers down the road. We parked the cars at one of the central car parks and walked to Smit's Paviljoen, a cafe restaurant situated on one of the lakes. We sat outside and had a drink here. The sky got really dark but luckily no rain as the clouds were blown away by the almost gale force winds! (Only kidding, it wasn't that bad.) We then went for a boatride on the lake and through the waterways. My cousin Jeroen was only just keeping all his food in, he's not that good on the water.... After about an hour we went back on the boat through the village and went back to Smit's for another drink.
After the soup we walked to 't Vonder for the next course of our meal. The kids had pancakes (with Smarties!) and the adults had a choice of fish or stuffed chicken. The food again was fine, not spectacular though.
Afther the main course we had another walk to Cafe Fanfare. Here we had our dessert and coffee afterwards. The dessert was a big platter of all types of ice-cream, chocolate and strawberry sauce, fresh cream and fruit.
The reason why all the courses were at a different venue was because this was the "Fanfare" dinner. "Fanfare" is a movie that was filmed at these locations 50 years ago, so they have put this together for the anniversary this year. It was good as it gives peole a chance to sample different restaurants, and you can walk off some of the food you've eaten during dinner. For the kids it was good as well as usually they are not that good at sitting still for so long...
I would reccommend doing this for a family day as the kids had fun and that ususally means the adults do too! We got to talk without getting interrupted constantly so it worked out really well for all.
Please read my reviews on the restaurants when I finish them!
