One of the brass band leading the kids back into the city

Today was the last day of the Avondvierdaagse, and Jordan was to walk the 5 kilometer walk as well. Normally the kids walk with their own class, but in the case of brothers or sisters it is allowed to walk together, so Jordan joined Reagan's class. They had great fun getting ready and were really looking forward to it. Luckily the weather was predicted to be good again, as the last two days all the walkers had had rain. Not continuesly but still enough to get wet...

Everyone gathered at the Kerkplein again, and because a lot of young kids only walk the last night it was even busier than previous nights. Along the route there ware many parents and other family and friends and everyone was supporting the kids of course. On the last night it is also tradition to give flowers and hang chains of sweets around the children's neck. I must say I am not too impressed by the latter, especially as some kids came home with enough sweets to fill a sweet shop! I decided to take a stand and explained to the girls I was not going to do this as I had already promised to take them for ice cream afterwards. My mother (who arrived from Ireland today) and I did get them flowers though which they weren't expecting at all.

When the kids returned there were several brass bands who lead them into the city centre and again there was a great atmosphere. All the kids were given medals to remember the event by so they were as proud as punch. I had never been to anything like this but it had been a fun few days and a great experience for the kids!
